Passengers around the country were left stranded as budget airline IndiGo cancelled as many as 47 flights on Tuesday. The decision was taken after the country's aviation regulator Directorate General of Civil Aviation, or DGCA grounded eight A320Neo planes of IndiGo with faulty engines, along with three such aircraft of GoAir. The IndiGo airline announced on its website that it had cancelled 47 flights across the entire nation. The flights that have been cancelled are from Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Patna, Srinagar, Bhubaneswar, Amritsar, Srinagar and Guwahati, among others.

The DCGA immediately took this decision after a Lucknow bound IndiGo aircraft returned to Ahmedabad within 40 minutes of its departure due to a mid-air engine failure on Monday. Following this decision, hundreds of passengers across the country have been stranded as dozens of flights were also cancelled by GoAir. IndiGo operates as many as 1000 flights in a day. While IndiGo carries about 40 percent of domestic flyers, Go Air has a market share of around 10 percent. Stay tuned for more updates.
