A study has found out the key to ward off flu viruses

With the winters in full swing, all of us at some point of time had a flu or fever, even if it was the barely-there kind. Winters puts our immunity system in havoc, and hence we’re all trying to find a fool-proof way to stay flu-free in the season. But turns out the answer is quite simple, and if you’re as lazy as we are, you’re probably not going to like it.

A recent study published in the PLoS One journal said that key to warding off germs and a virus is regular exercise and meditation. The study was conducted on 390 adults who were divided into three groups. The first group took up exercise classes for eight weeks; the second group took classes meditation classes for the same duration. The third group didn’t take any classes at all. However, all the groups had to receive flu shots.

The study’s findings’ said that the maximum numbers of cold and flu incidents were recorded in the third group, where the members missed 105 working days. In comparison, the group that took up meditation group missed 73 days and the group that took up exercise missed 82 days of work.

Speaking about the study, researcher Bruce Barrett said, "More research into the benefits of exercise and meditation is warranted, maybe in higher-risk or sicker populations, where there are more health benefits to gain."

He further added, "Until that research is done, we feel justified in advocating for both mindfulness and exercise because benefits appear likely, and there are minimal risks," Barrett added.
