Did someone say naps? Naps are the most loved and most appreciated when you have a hectic routine and are in desperate need of a nap. It's during the days when you're on a 5 hour sleep when you keep dreaming about the time when you could take afternoon naps. Did you know that afternoon naps can actually better your health? You read that right! Naps can recover people with serious medical ailments.

A recent research presented at the American College of Cardiology's 68th Annual Scientific Session, those who can nap in the afternoons can notice reduced blood pressure in comparison to those who can't nap. This indicates that just a healthy diet and medication isn't the only way to lower blood pressure but afternoon naps are too.

It is quite difficult to deal with the ill effects of high blood pressure as there are no proper symptoms. But if in case the blood pressure is persistently high, it will only affect the heart and circulation of blood in the body. This is because of the blood clots in the arteries and also by the rupturing of the blood vessels.

Although, sleeping for long hours isn't recommended, but you shouldn't feel guilty to sleep a few more minutes in the day time. At least 5 mm Hg of blood pressure drops when you take an afternoon nap. And researchers say that this is quite a huge drop as compared to other contributing factors. Reducing salt and alcohol can also bring down the blood pressure by 3 to 5 mm Hg. However, it all depends on the gender, age, medication and lifestyle of a person.
