One of the weird beauty treatments that we indulge in is fish pedicure which has taken over the beauty world. This treatment requires you to dip your feet in a tank full of garra rua fish or doctor fish The fishes nibble at the dead skin of your feet which exfoliates your skin which leads to soft and smooth skin. Even after its seeming advantages, fish pedicures have been banned in a few parts of Europe, USA as well as Canada.

There are several reasons why fish pedicure can actually end up harming you:

- First things first, it's plainly cruel to the fishes. These fishes are imported from Turkey, Syria, Iran and Iraq. They don't usually survive long travel yet are made to. Their diet doesn't include dead skin yet they're made to eat it. The fishes seem eager to nibble at your dead skin because they usually starve and dead skin is the only form of their sustenance.

- This treatment might give you a bad infection. Since the fishes are known to carry certain strains of infection causing bacteria, it can give you pneumonia. The pedicure tubs are also a fertile breeding ground for these bacteria and so even the tiniest of cuts can give you infection.

- The pedicure can go horribly wrong and you might go home with bumpy, uneven skin. Parts of your feet bitten by the fishes could be so deep that your feet might start bleeding too.
