The winter season is finally upon us and while people do love that drop in the temperature and the cold winds brushing through their hair, winters are also the time when the nights get longer and days get shorter. So, although the winter season essentially marks the beginning of the holiday season, it also has a negative impact on people's health. And no, we're not talking about the chilly weather making you sick.

We're talking about the SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder). For those uninitiated, the SAD is a disorder that occurs due to the change in seasons. So, as the weather gets bleaker, people are more prone to feeling depression and anxiety. And although these mental health issues affect people around the year, they get worse during the winters due to the lack of warmth and feelings of gloom.

This is why it becomes even more important for people to pay extra attention to their health during the winters so that they can actually put their worries aside and enjoy the winter season. Here are some tips that can help you combat with those feelings of depression and anxiety during the winter season.

Communicate: One of the most important things you can do to keep yourself away from gloomy thoughts is to communicate with people. Stay in touch with family and friends, tell them how you feel and let them help you feel better.

Take a breather: Don't try to run away from the situation. If you feel a certain way, acknowledge your feelings and learn to accept them. The next step is to believe that like everything else in life this too shall pass. So, take a breather, give yourself a break and learn to not beat yourself up about the way you feel.

Say no to temporary happiness: Binge drinking and smoking might make you feel great for a little while but trust us when we say, that happiness is going to be short lived. In the long run, it'll do more harm to you than good so don't opt for methods that leave you with temporary happiness.

Eat and sleep right: Another thing you can do to keep yourself feeling great is to consume the right kind of food (not junk food!) and get the right amount of sleep (proper eight hours). If your body feels healthy and rested, you will feel happier naturally.

Get some exercise: We don't mean that you hit the gym every day and exercise for two hours, all you have to do is take 15-20 minutes out to get some physical exercise and preferably under the sun. So, wake up early and go for a run or a jog and see just how great it'll make you feel.

Stay positive: The most important thing you can do is to stay positive. Understand that this is a phase and it will come to an end. Keep your mind clear and positive and you'll start feeling better in no time.

Well, we hope these tips can help you. Stay tuned for more updates.
