Amsterdam restaurant to offer meals in individual greenhouses for social distancing

As the global food and beverage industry has been hit by the deadly coronavirus, restaurants, pubs, and diners are now brainstorming on how to maintain the social distancing post the lockdown. In such a scenario, Mediamatic ETEN- a restaurant in Amsterdam has found an innovative way to maintain social distancing post the lockdown situation. The restaurant will be offering diners meals in individual greenhouses to curb in-person contact.

Mediamatic ETEN is the vegan restaurant and a part of the Mediamatic.net enterprise in Amsterdam that focuses on art, sustainability, and nature. The outlet would reopen from the 21st of May and will begin operating where guests will be given seats inside their ‘Serres Separees’ or Separated greenhouses. Each of these enclosed glasshouses comes equipped with a table that can serve two to three diners at a time.

“Initially, we will be allowing up to three guests to dine inside each greenhouse, even though there is enough space for more. This is because we are now careful with our optimism,” said Mediamatic’s founding partner Willem Velthoven in an NL Times report. He has also mentioned that so far the public response has been enthusiastic as the tickets for May end and July are all sold out.

Currently, all the Dutch restaurants and bars are coming up will possible ideas to implement the 1.5-meter society rule without hampering their business. Only time will tell us how successful these ideas can really be in practice.
