A recent YouTube video of a professor from Harvard has garnered over 400,000 hits. The American Heart Association has advised people against using coconut oil and the professor too made some comments concerning coconut oil in a lecture which was then posted on YouTube. The lecture is titled "Coconut Oil and other Nutritional Errors". Professor Karen Michels described coconut oil as "pure poison" and "one of the worst foods you can eat."

Coconut oil is a lot dangerous as compared to lard because it almost exclusively contains saturated fatty acids, which can really clog up your arteries. Which is why most experts recommend using olive oil or rapeseed oil while cooking. In fact, flaxseed oil which contains omega-3 fatty acids is just as healthy for the body. Most researchers also agree that as compared to coconut oil, olive oil and linseed oil can be used to form up a healthy diet.

Well, there's still research going on, on whether one can freely consume saturated fatty acids or if they are really as dangerous as they're put across. The bottom line seems to be that if you do enjoy eating coconut oil, they key is to indulge in moderation. Stay tuned for more updates.
