Avoid making these mistakes when washing your face

Washing your face the wrong way could cause skin inflammation, dryness and acne. You could be doing it wrong and not even realise it. Many people often overlook this step, especially if you are in a rush to get out the door. Here are a few common mistakes you should avoid making when washing your face.

* Water temperature may be too hot or too cold

You can strip the skin of natural oils and cause it to go dry if you are washing your face with really hot water. Washing it with very cold water isn't the solution either as it won't effectively get rid of dirt and makeup. Make sure you wash your face with lukewarm water.

* Using the wrong washcloth

Make sure the face towel you use is clean. You should also make sure the texture of the cloth is gentle on your skin. Using a dirty cloth on your face will only get all the old residue back on your face after all that washing. It's best to use a clean towel on your face every time you wash it.

* Delaying post-wash routine

Your skin is nice and moist just after you wash it. That is why it is the best time to slather on your serums and moisturizers to trap the water so your skin stays hydrated. Make it a habit to use your skincare products as soon as you are out of the shower.

* You may be using the wrong face wash

There is a face wash for every skin type. Make sure you are using a face wash that is suitable for your skin. If you are using a non-foaming product, make sure your skin is a little damp. Apply foaming products to wet skin and massage it into the skin well in circular motions. You should also make sure the ingredients in these products don't cause irritation. Consult with an expert before choosing the right face wash for you.

* Avoid brushing your teeth after your skincare routine

Most people tend to get their skincare routine out of the way before they start brushing their teeth. However, doing so may wash away all the products you used. This may cause the skin to go dry as the product won't be as effective.
