Hemp was once considered to be a weed but has now turned into one of the most prominently used plants ever. It's no secret that multiple beauty and skincare brands have now begun to use plants that work as ingredients and help improve the products' potency. One ingredient that has recently made an entry into the world of beauty and skincare is hemp seed oil.

For those uninitiated, hemp seed oil is derived from the small seeds of the Cannabis Sativa plant. These small seeds happen to be packed with nutrients, fatty acids and useful bioactive compounds which helps make them such amazing ingredients for beauty and skincare products. Cosmetic dermatologist Dr Niketa Sonavane has also commented on hemp seed oil and said that it is an ingredient that has been used in Ayurvedic medicine for centuries in India but has only found its way now in modern medicine.

“Cold pressed hemp seed oil contains essential fatty acids such as linolenic acid, which supports skin repair and improves the moisture balance of the skin. It works beautifully against fine lines and can prevent stretch marks. It also has anti-inflammatory properties, which can calm down acne, rosacea and skin rashes,” says Dr Nikita.

“Whether on your skin, hair or toast, hemp seed oil is a nutritious oil that will keep you glowing on the inside and out. Adding it to your food will incorporate a nutty flavour along with its nutritional goodness for a wholesome meal. It can also be drizzled over dips, salads, hummus or pasta,” says another expert.

“Hemp has been the easy scapegoat throughout history. However, its journey is not restricted to this, Hemp finds mention in the Atharva Vedas and ancient texts that account for its medicinal and therapeutic value. We’re convinced that there should be more people talking about Hemp with pride. At every level, hemp provides, rather than takes away from what we have,” he continued.

Here are all the benefits associated with hemp seed oil:

Can soothe rashes: For anyone who frequently suffers from skin rashes or ailments like dryness, acne, psoriasis and eczema, hemp seed oil is honestly a godsend. It contains properties that can immediately soothe the skin and can help keep rashes at bay.

Boosts immunity: Since hemp seed oil happens to be high in phytochemical content, it has certain antibacterial properties that can help reduce your skin's vulnerability towards infections.

Works as a moisturiser: Hemp seeds are rich in healthy fats, Vitamin A, Vitamin E and antioxidants which can all work effectively to moisturise your skin and keep it hydrated.

Maintains hair growth: Say goodbye to all your hair problems with the aid of hemp seed oil. The high fatty acid content ensures that your scalp is nourished and moisturised and can also help boost hair growth.
