We all know that eating fruits and vegetables is extremely good for our health, but did you know that it can also help prevent memory loss? A study found that eating leafy greens, dark orange or red vegetables and berry fruits, and drinking orange juice might work wonders in preventing memory loss in people, especially men. The study surveyed almost 20,000 men over the age of 51. The participants were required to fill out questionnaires about how many servings of fruits, vegetables and other foods they had every day at the beginning of the study and then every four years for 20 years.

"One of the most important factors in this study is that we were able to research and track such a large group of men over a 20-year period of time, allowing for very telling results," said Changzheng Yuan, from Harvard T H Chan School of Public Health in the US. "Our studies provide further evidence dietary choices can be important to maintain your brain health," said Yuan.

The study found that a good 55 percent of the participants had good thinking and memory skills, 38 percent had moderate skills and 7 percent had poor thinking and memory skills. It was also found that people who ate larger amounts of fruits and vegetables at the beginning of the study were less likely to develop thinking and memory problems, irrespective of whether they continued eating large quantities of fruits and vegetables later on.
