The British Journal of Sports Medicine recently featured a study which stated that playing golf can help you lead a healthier and longer life. The sport is also claimed to be good for mental health. After thorough research, it was found that playing golf regularly was associated with longevity and reducing the risk factors for heart disease and stroke. Apart from this, it can also benefit older people by boosting their strength and balance.

In fact, playing golf is also associated with improving the mental health and overall health of people with disabilities. Plus, compared to other sports the risk of injury is moderate, however, since players are required to spend so much time outside, they may be more prone to skin cancer. The sport also seems to have social benefits for people as it gets them outdoors in nature and also makes them more sociable.

However, currently, the kind of participants for the sport are narrowed down to middle-aged to older white males. The sport itself is perceived as expensive, male-dominated, difficult to learn and not something the young generation would like to play. The research also suggests that the sport should be more welcoming of people from all walks of life and ethnic backgrounds. Stay tuned for more updates.
