What is a pacer: Selfless runner who has chosen to give up their timing and adopt a slower finish time than their trained ability to help amateur runners achieve their target time)

Each of the nineteen pacers, pacing the TCS World 10K Open 10K category this year have their own unique reasons for running, for one it was just seeing how far she could go, if she diligently put one foot in front of the other; for the other it was to challenge her own body after almost losing her leg and for yet another it was just to lose all those “mommy pounds”! And while each of them has their own unique story on why they run, the one thing that holds them all together is that the community they are proudly part off – History’s first all-women pacing squad.

Leading the 15 pacer buses, at regular intervals between 50 and 80 minutes, these women will pass on their passion and enthusiasm for running to the number of people hoping to set their personal bests while competing on Sunday, May 27.

Apart from being cheered by passionate women, the Open 10K runners are motivated by yet another first-of-its-kind initiative by Procam International along with Sportswear partner, PUMA.

Every registered runner will receive a PUMA ‘Race-Day-Tee’ as a reward for their attempt at being the best version of themselves as runners when they arrive at Race Day.

Abhishek Ganguly, Managing Director PUMA India, shares, “Running is a very critical part of building a fitter India and it is this belief that encourages us to promote the sport. We are glad to reward every Open 10K runner with this exclusive Race Day Tee.”

Encouraging the running spirit, we are also distributing race accessories, such as reflective strips as well as nipple bands to all the registered runners at our stores, in the hope to aid their performances.”

Commenting on these initiatives, Dilip Jayaram, CEO Procam International added, “Our biggest stakeholders are our runners, and each year the sport offers new and exciting motivators – this is one such initiative. Also, in a first for the running world, an all-women pacer squad is an endorsement of the country making a statement on a global platform - showcase the growth of running in India”

The 19 pacers are Shailja Sridhar, Avani Vora, Bahar Sinha, Rashmi Somani, Bindu Juneja, Mahalakshmi Sagar, Shikha Rawal, Deepa Nayak, Kimberly Pereira, Sanghamitra Guha, Anjana Mohan, Kavita Nair, Prema Rajaram, Neelam Talwar, Shahana Zuberi, Nandini Ashokumar, Anu Beri, Poornima Shetty and Ranjani Ramanujam (as seen in the picture above).
