The spread of COVID-19 has almost crippled countries all over the world. While the contagious virus is spreading like a wildfire, the second study for the month is reflecting some relief to the situation. The Chinese lead research conducted from Huazhong University of Science and Technology in Wuhan suggests that an expecting woman infected with coronavirus faces zero risks of passing the infection to her foetus.

The study’s claim was published in the journal Frontiers in Pediatrics and received applaud for being the second study to confirm that the infection caused by the COVID-19 or coronavirus does not transmit to infants from pregnant mothers.

The study conducted a thorough observation of four COVID-19 infected patients who gave birth to their children at the Union Hospital of Wuhan. The hospital is located within the parameters if the Huazhong University of Science and Technology.

Later, the just-born infants were kept separate in absolute isolation initially in the hospital’s neonatal intensive care units. Babies were fed regular formula like any other newly born. Surprisingly, it came into notice that no infant among the batch had developed signs of the infection, such as fever or cold. To confirm the stats, a throat swab was tested to find out if the babies were suffering from any infection associated with the COVID-19.

Results proved that three of the four new-born came out negative while the fourth one’s mother didn’t give her consent for the test.

According to the researchers, one child experienced minor difficulty in breathing for a few days, while others experienced rashes which is common in babies and disappears on its own. However, four of them remain healthy and free from the virus as their mother too recovered in time.
"We are not sure if the rash was due to the mother's COVID-19 infection," added Yalan Liu, a member of the research team of Huazhong University of Science and Technology. The city is believed to be the origination point of the deadly virus outbreak which affected more than 1 lakh of its citizens and caused over 5,000 deaths. The Hubei province, Wuhan continues to be on lockdown for weeks now.
