With the spread of the current pandemic virus and the total number of death shooting up, it is not hard to figure out that the COVID-19 has been proven more severe for older people. The recovery so far has been mainly seen in younger age groups. This can conclude that the elderly are more prone to viral infection due to degrading immunity levels. The recent headline stating the death of a 64-year-old in Mumbai due to coronavirus has confirmed the risk among old people. This has let many adults worry about their parents in their old age. If you are someone who’s caught in the same worrisome situation, here are some ways to ensure the health safety of your parents during this crisis.

Advised by the health official, one must self-quarantine themselves and their aging parents to prevent the spread of the coronavirus. Make sure the house is being regularly sanitised and cleaned to ensure proper safety even inside the house.

Amid the flu season, it is a must to including immunity-boosting food in your elderly parent’s diet. Food items such as kale, spinach, eggs, chicken and more are known for boosting the overall health of the body.

As informed repeatedly by the WHO, one must avoid touching others even when you’re at home. The COVID-19 virus spreads majorly through psychical contact with an infected person. It is best to wipe frequently touched areas of the home as these are usually the germiest of all places.

You might have a parent who’s too old to get up or go out, make sure you are washing their hands frequently if they can’t do it by themselves. Ask them to avoid touching their face too much or any object that comes from outside.

The older generation being new to the technology tend to fall prey to the misinformation being circulated on social media. Make sure you explain the situation to them and ask them not to panic as it can affect their health. If you notice any deteriorating sign in their health or sudden change in food habit or sleep pattern, consult the doctor at the earliest!
