Weeks after a devastating blaze at a pub in Kamala Mills broke out claiming 14 lives, and recently the BMC had demolished the restaurants that had trespassed on open spaces or built illegal extensions, but now the things seem to be getting back to normal as the eateries have taken over the open space once again, while some have boldly built in new constructions at the same spot. The BMC claims that the restaurants have the permission to serve in the open spaces.

One of the famous play zone in Kamala Mills, Smaash had to face the BMC bulldozer. It was demolished after it was found to be illegal. The children’s play area at the play zone was an illegal extension. But currently they are reconstructing and the area is currently in use. Devendra Jain, assistant municipal commissioner, G-south (Worli), said, "The structure was completely demolished as it had not been constructed as per the approved plan. Now they have been given permission to do construction as per the approved plan."

The Pravas restaurant at Kamala Mills was also demolished by the BMC, which was built like a train coach. The restaurant is trying to rebuild in the same area. The BMC official said, "The structure was completely demolished as it was not constructed as per approved plans. Now they have been given permission to construct as per approved plans submitted to the building proposal department."

Cafe Bandra in Bandra west one of the popular restaurants in Bandra had illegally constructed a roof in an area which was to be an open-air space. The BMC had demolished the illegal construction a few days ago. The restaurant has now put out chairs and tables in the open area. The BMC said, "There are chances they have taken permission from the Health Department to serve in the open area. I will have to check on this. If permission was not taken, we will take appropriate action."

One more famous place in Andheri, TAP had also as an illegal open-air space seating. The civic body also seized all the furnishings in this outdoor space. The BMC had demolished the whole structure build outside of the open space. Weeks later the restaurant has now placed chairs and tables in the open space. The BMC said, "There are provisions under which the restaurant owners can apply for permission to serve in open spaces, with tables, chairs and umbrellas. I will have to check if the restaurant has been given permission for the same or not."
