It's a known fact that including nuts in your diet can prove to be really beneficial for your health. But now, a study has found that eating tree nuts like almonds, walnuts and pistachios can actually reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases in people with type 2 diabetes. Diabetes is also associated with an increased risk of high cholesterol, heart disease and stroke. “Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death and a major cause of heart attacks, strokes and disability for people living with type 2 diabetes,” said Prakash Deedwania, a professor at the University of California-San Francisco School of Medicine in the US.

“Efforts to understand the link between the two conditions are important to prevent cardiovascular complications of type 2 diabetes and help people make informed choices about their health,” Deedwania said. It was found that even when people were consuming nuts before they were diagnosed with having type 2 diabetes the nuts proved to be quite beneficial for health. Even a small amount of nuts can help.

After the study was conducted, it was found that after eating five servings of nuts per week the participants had a 17% lower risk of total cardiovascular disease, 20% lower risk of coronary heart disease, a 34% lower risk of cardiovascular disease death, and a 31% reduced risk of all-cause mortality. Apart from this, nuts can also help improve blood sugar control, blood pressure, metabolism of fats, inflammation and blood vessel wall function. Well, what are you waiting for? Add these to your diet STAT.
