Tea, more popularly known as 'chai' in India is probably the most popular drink in our country. Be it a nasty headache or a groggy feeling, tea can help come to your rescue for a plethora of issues. So, if you're an avid tea lover, you're absolutely going to love what we tell you next. Apparently, drinking tea has been associated with better-organised brain regions which can help improve cognitive function as compared to non-tea drinkers.

"Our results offer the first evidence of positive contribution of tea drinking to brain structure, and suggest that drinking tea regularly has a protective effect against age-related decline in brain organisation," according to a study authored by Feng Lei, Assistant Professor from the National University of Singapore.

But this isn't all that tea is good for. Previous researches have also shown that consuming tea can contribute to improved mood as well as better cardiovascular health (prevents cardiovascular diseases from occuring). A study was carried out from 2015 to 2018 for which 36 adults aged 60 and above were recruited. These participants were then asked to contribute data relating to their health, lifestyle and psychological well-being. They were also asked to undergo neuropsychological tests and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).

When the results from these scans and their cognitive performance was analysed, it was found that the participants who consumed either green tea, oolong tea, or black tea at least four times a week for about 25 years had better-connected brain regions as compared to those who didn't consume tea at all. "We have shown in our previous studies that tea drinkers had better cognitive function as compared to non-tea drinkers," Lei said.

"Our current results relating to brain network indirectly support our previous findings by showing that the positive effects of regular tea drinking are the result of improved brain organisation brought about by preventing disruption to interregional connections," he added.

Well, this certainly proves that consuming tea can indeed be rather good for health. So, if you haven't started already, we say you pick your choice of tea and get drinking! Stay tuned for more updates.
