You might know that you're not supposed to eat the leftover pizza the next morning if you left it unattended overnight. But you must also know that two hours is the limit on just about all food items that is left at room temperature.

You can always throw things away once they pass two hours of being at room temperature because it is very much of a breeding ground for bacteria that waits to give you a bout of food poisoning.

In order to extend the lifespan of your food items, you can keep the hot food at 140 degrees Fahrenheit or even warmer than that with chafing dishes or warming trays. You can store cold foods at 40 degrees Fahrenheit or cooler than that by placing dishes over ice or using small serving trays.

Whenever you're at a party outdoors, make sure that none of the food items sit out for more than one hour. There are a few things you shouldn't serve in the summertime. Know what's the right food dishes according to the season you're throwing a party in and it'll get a lot easier for you to come up with a menu that won't turn stale due to the temperatures outside.
