Yes, as ridiculous as this sounds, rest assured a study conducted by Hungarian scientists has found this to be true. Turns out, overweight dogs have a lot in common with overweight human beings. Apparently, there's a main similarity between the two species; an interest in top quality food and an unwillingness to settle for second best. Well, that does sound familiar now doesn't it?

The scientists conducted an experiment wherein they put two bowls of food in front of different dogs. One bowl contained appealing food while the other was mostly empty and contained unappealing food. The study found that the dogs that weighed normal, obeyed human commands to check the less appealing bowl for food. Whereas the obese dogs refused to entertain the commands and made little or no effort to check for food in the less appealing food bowl. They directly opted for the appealing food.

The study also found that the dogs were unwilling to invest more energy than necessary if they were unlikely to find a food they liked. Now, here's where the interesting part comes in. Scientists are now likely to use dogs as a model for future research into the causes and psychological impacts of human obesity. Well, we wonder how the results will turn out to be.
