Did you know your smoothie is making you gain weight?

Every low-calorie food like fruits and vegetables can add up to your weight. And if you think you're going healthy by drinking smoothies then we're going to burst our bubble and say that it doesn't. In fact, smoothies includes yogurt, whipped cream, sorbet, sweeteners and sometimes even ice cream. All of which add up to more calories. A made-to-order or bottled smoothie can contain up to 300-600 calories in just 16 ounces. This means, you're putting on weight by just sipping on your favourite smoothie without even realising that it does.

Since smoothies are sweet, the sugar rush spikes the blood-sugar levels in your body and ultimately leaves you hungry and tired in just a few hours. This is why, it is always adviced to sit and chew your food as your body secretes hormones that help in increasing satiety.

There might also be a chance that you might be sipping on your smoothie at the wrong time of your day. The body's ability to process and absorb sugar depends on how active you are. And so drinking smoothie on the wrong time can end up making you feel tired and hungry.

If your smoothie contains too many ingredients, it can add up to the calories that you end up putting down your throat.

You probably have a large glass of smoothie. Gulping down a hefty smoothie might feel all nice and filling, but imagine the number of calories that one big glass might contain and will start showing up on your body. Some smoothies even contain loads of granola and fresh fruits which in turn only adds in to your weight.

"Smoothies can make a healthy breakfast, but they've evolved into having a health halo if you put a lot of fruit juice and syrups into it. It can make you feel invigorated for a a little bit because of the sugar high, but then you're left feeling hungry shortly after," says Bonnie Taub-Dix, RDN, creator of BetterThanDieting.com and author of 'Read It Before You Eat It - Taking You from Label to Table'.
