A new study claims diet is more important than the amount of exercise we get.

When you workout your appetite increases. Not getting the right foods can hamper your fitness goals if you are doing heavy regiments like weight lifting.

The study reveals we burn 10 percent of calories when we digest food and close to 30 percent when we are physically active. Researchers say very few calories are burned through exercise compared to how much of food we consume.

According to theUS Centres for Disease Control and Prevention, people who lose weight slowly are more successful at keeping the weight off.

Alexxai Kravitz, Investigator at the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases told a news portal only 5 to 15 percent of calories are burned through exercise.

However, while experts note exercise is important, they say lifestyle factors like a diet change is more crucial to losing the weight and keeping it off. Eating the right amount of nutritious foods is what will keep our body healthy.

While we do need both diet and exercise to achieve our fitness goals, make sure to feed the body healthy foods to stay on track.
