An American dietitian claims eating pizza for breakfast is better than cereal. Most people who consume it in the morning are likely nursing a hangover and finishing off their leftover. But for dietitian Chelsey Amer it can be a great way to start the day.

"Surprisingly, pizza can be a more balanced breakfast option than many sugar-filled breakfast cereals," Amer, who is based in New York, told a news portal. Adding, "A slice of plain cheese pizza contains a balance of carbs, protein, and fat."

Amer further explained: "A bowl of sugary cereal with low-fat milk is largely sugar and extremely carb-heavy."

While she doesn't encourage having a slice of pizza with your morning coffee daily, she said it could be a better option than cereal if you have to choose between the two. She urges people to have a healthy combination of complex carbohydrates, healthy fats, and proteins for breakfast to make sure this important meal of the day is well-balanced.

You could opt for egg and spinach on wholegrain toast or try yoghurt and fruit with nuts and seeds. If you are picking cereal, be mindful of the sugar content as it could raise your chances of developing serious health issues. While cereal may seem like the easiest choice to eat before you rush out, you should check its nutritional value before consuming too much of it.

"Even a second helping of dinner set aside from the previous night can make a healthy breakfast if it's chock full of veggies and balanced—for example, a generous portion of veggies sauteed in EVOO with herbs tossed with a lean protein, or chicken breast or lentils with a small scoop of quinoa," Cynthia Sass, MPH, RD, told a news portal.
