Environment experts urge the world to adopt a specific meal plan in order to sustain a global population of 10 billion by 2050, curb climate change and prevent millions of premature deaths.

What's on offer? Almost no meat. Instead, your meals should consist of porridge for breakfast, rice for lunch and lentils and vegetables for dinner.

Intake of foods like meat and sugar needs to be reduced by mid-century to reduce the burden caused by three billion people who are either overfed or malnourished.

The team reveals livestock farming is dangerous for the environment as it produces up to 18 percent of global greenhouse gases. This contributes to water shortages and deforestation.

This diet calls for no more than 29 grammes of daily poultry, 13 grammes of eggs and 14 grammes of red meat. It also calls for an increase in the consumption of fruits, vegetables and legumes, especially in poor countries.

"Eating less red meat -- which is mostly a challenge in changing human behaviour -- is crucial," Johan Rockstrom, director of the Potsdam Institute for Climate Change Impact Research and one of the authors, told a news portal.

"But something equally dramatic that is less talked about is the reduction in conventional cereal and tubers, and the transition to nuts, fruits, vegetables and beans as a principal source of nutrition."

Researchers also noted their menu was created to show how you can get your 2,500 daily calories in a healthy manner and help save the planet. They also stated that the ideal diet could vary across regions.
