The bone broth diet has become a huge health trend. Now, Experts weigh in on whether the bone broth diet can help you lose weight.

Meat, vegetables and a few spices are the main ingredients used to make bone broth. It is simmered for almost 18 hours or more. It has been consumed for thousands of years because of its health properties. "The Chinese started using it over 2,500 years ago, while 12th-century Egyptian physicians prescribed it as a remedy for colds and asthma," Bryon Yang, president of Nutra Food Ingredients, told a news portal. Adding, "With modern science, we have finally been able to understand what makes bone broth so special — it's the nutrients it carries."

According to Yang, this broth is highly nutritious as it packed with vitamins, calcium, magnesium, collagen, phosphorous, iron, and amino acids.

Even though it has been around for a long time, it hs become a huge wellness trend when Kellyann Petrucci, MS, ND, a naturopathic physician and weight-loss specialist released his book - 'Bone Broth Diet'. In just 21 days, Petrucci claims it can help reduce chronic inflammation, tackle signs of ageing, reduce headaches, promote gut health, and boost energy. On this diet, you have to consume only animal protein, fruits, veggies, nuts, seeds, and healthy fats for fives days and on the other two days consume only bone broth.

"I like the bone broth diet for a few reasons," Jessica DeLuise, MHS, PA-C, CCMS, founder of Eat Your Way to Wellness, told a news portal. Adding, "Bone broth is high in protein, collagen, and minerals, which can support healthy tissues, satiety, and gut healing. Plus, while eating Paleo, you're removing the majority of potential foods that could cause bloating or weight gain, such as dairy, wheat, and beans."

Does it aid weight loss? Not all experts agree whether this diet can help. "It's possible someone could probably lose between five to ten pounds in 21 days, with much of that being water weight," Presicci told a news portal, "but I definitely do not recommend or encourage attempting quick weight loss. Since this diet is only meant for 21 days, people may treat it as a crash diet and miss the opportunity to use it as a reset for gut, hormone, and overall health."

Meanwhile, Yang says it may be possible. "The longer an individual feels full, the lower their food cravings will be throughout the day," Yang told a news portal. Adding, "Less food equals less calorie intake. If an individual combines the diet with exercise three to four times a week, they will have a recipe for weight-loss success."
