Acne is that uninvited guest that keeps showing up even if we don’t want to see them anymore. The science behind the formation of acne tells you that there can be numerous factors that can be causing stubborn zits on your face. However, apart from hormonal imbalances and clogged pores, an ancient Chinese theory suggests that acne in certain areas can actually be a sign of underlying health problems. This is called face mapping, an alternative-medicine practice to determine health issues according to the location of the breakout. This art of face mapping is not exactly a part of science, but many dermatologists in today’s world still believe in this theory. Curious? Read on

For instance, zit on the forehead is believed to be a clear sign of stress and digestive disorders. Other factors that can be causing acne are prolonged usage of hat and hairstyle with front bangs touching the forehead.

Similarly, acne on the upper cheeks is often associated with breathing issues and other respiratory disorders. Lower cheek acne is believed to be caused due to poor dental hygiene and surface bacteria.

T-zone is the oiliest area of the face. Any acne grown between the two eyebrows or down the nose and chin area is often linked to gastrointestinal, hormonal imbalances or allergies. Whereas, acne on the nose is often triggered by the liver and kidney dysfunction.

Other parts of your body such as the back, arms and thighs also experience acne, called body acne. These are often caused by skin irritation, hormonal fluctuations and genetics. Lifestyle habits like wearing tight clothes, carrying bag-pack and dehydration also irritate the skin, paving the way for body acne.
