The fat flush diet is the latest health trend many people are getting on these days. Nutritionist Ann Louise Gittleman is the creator of the diet, which is a combination of weight and detoxification. The cleansing diet consists of a restricted-calorie diet with low carbohydrates that is supposed to help you lose fat, boost metabolism and decrease water retention.

This diet mostly consists of fruits rich in fibre, vegetables and healthy oils. It is reportedly ideal for people struggling to lose belly fat. So, how does it help you lose belly fat? By eating a combination of specific foods at a certain time to give your metabolism a boost.

There are three phases involved in this eating plan:

Phase 1: Dieters have to consume eight glasses of cranberry juice with water every day for two weeks. This restricts your calories intake to 1,100 to 1,200 calories, which is supposed to help to reduce water retention.

Phase 2: Now dieters are allowed to eat some amount of carbohydrates, which will increase their daily calorie intake to 1500.

Phase 3: The phase, known as the ‘Lifestyle Eating Plan’, allows you to consume more dairy products and carbohydrates. It is designed to help you control your weight throughout your life. Dieters are recommended to eat:40 percent carbohydrates, 30 percent protein and 30 percent fat.

While this diet claims to burn fat quickly from the body, it does come with dietary restrictions that may be difficult for many people to adopt. The calorie allowances are also very low. Experts say this fat flush diet should not be followed for very long as it could lead to health issues.

Like many fad diets, it does come with certain drawbacks, so you should consult with an expert and do some investigation before trying it out.
