Today, as women, we're rejoicing. Why, do you ask? Well, simply because the word 'Feminism' has been announced as the most searched word by leading dictionary Merriam-Webster. The volume of searches regarding the word shot up because 2017 saw various news reports and events that spiked interest in the idea of the term for many.

Merriam-Webster has bestowed the 'Word of the Year' honour on the word or term with the sharpest spike in look-ups over the previous year. This year the dictionary announced a 70 percent increase in online searches for feminism. And it all started with Donald Trump being elected as the US president even after more than a dozen women spoke about being sexually harassed by him over the years. His election was followed by a large number of unprecedented worldwide protests. The word not only hit hard on the social and political front but also the fashion scene with fashion-influencers donning slogan T-shirts that had feminism written all over them. Among others, box-office smash 'Wonder Woman' too was another reason that made people search the term. Well, so it's safe to say that a lot of reasons led to this and thank God they did, 'cause we believe that the word has finally got the traction it deserves.

Feminism is not a man-hating scheme and the world seems to have finally understood that. And today as women, that is why we rejoice!
