Long before the influence of westernisation in India, people used to sleep on the floor, with and without mattress. From poverty to lack of development, there are so many reasons why still a good chunk of rural people still continue to sleep on the floor instead of buying a comfy bed. On the other side, few people prefer to sleep on the floor for medical issues. The concept of minimalism has also made people get rid of their luxurious beds. All of these can raise a common question among everyone-is sleeping on the floor good for health? Or bad?

Although there’s only limited scientific research behind the benefits of sleeping on the floor. It’s safe to say that it can serve some advantages and disadvantages at the same time.

There’s so scientific explanation behind the link between sleeping on the floor and back pain. Many people claim that sleeping on your back on the floor can help to improve body posture. However, the kind of mattress you’re using has a lot to do with both back pain and posture. We recommend a medium-firm mattress.

Sleeping on the floor can sometimes make people feel well-rested whereas when it comes to bed you might feel a little too comfortable. This is another reason why people find it difficult to get up in the morning. A night of sound sleep will make you feel less tired in the morning.

The downside of sleeping on the floor can be quite contradicting as it’s not for everyone. People with medical issues should not try sleeping on the floor before consulting with the doctor as it can increase body pain. Sleeping on the floor can also cause fluctuation in the body temperature during different seasons. Sensitive people prone to cold and allergy should refrain from sleeping on the floor.
