Obesity has become one of the leading health issues of concern in the world. With the way our environment is, lots of people have become more prone to being obese. However, a new study has found that genes might have a more significant role to play in this as well. The study found as many as 24 genetic variations that could cause a person to develop an apple-shaped body or a pear-shaped body.

The study could also prove why some people are more prone to being obese. While there are many health issues that arise due to obesity, the most dangerous ones are type 2 diabetes and heart disease. After the study was conducted scientists discovered two dozen variations that were responsible for body fat distribution. Some of these variations were responsible for blood sugar control and fat metabolism.

"The gene variations we identified in this study don't act in the brain," a researcher said. "They work at the cellular level, determining where fat will be stored in the body." "Genes are involved in the development of obesity and where the fat is distributed," he added. "However, the evidence is much stronger for environmental causes." This goes to prove that no matter what your genetic disposition is if you consume the right diet and workout regularly, you can combat obesity. However, it might be more difficult for some than for others owing to their genetics. Stay tuned for more updates.
