Has there been a time when you just can't stop scratching yourself and it ultimately gives you rashes?

We're now moving from winter to summer which means that the air is fluctuating that eventually results in irritated skin that makes it itchier. Scratching might seem to be satisfying but it only ends up causing your skin to feel more trauma and makes it even more susceptible to germs and housing a tonne of bacteria.

Here's what you should know about itchy skin and how to do away with it:

Why does the skin itch?
- Like any other skin issue, there isn't just one cause for itchiness. One of the most common factors for the same is dryness of the skin. Another common cause could be hormonal changes, which is why the pregnant ladies and menopausal women have a tendency to have itch-prone skin.

How to deal with itchy skin?
- One of the most common places to feel the need to scratch are legs, back and arms. Most of the times, a moisturizer can soothe the sensation, but if it doesn't, you need to rethink the kind of skincare you've been using. Switch to non-perfume products as it can greatly help. Observe the products that you use on your skin and if you start using new products which causes itchiness, it could possibly be the ingredients in the products for causing irritation on the skin.

Here are some remedies:
- Avoid wearing tight clothes or any material that is wool or synthetic.
- Keep showers for less than 20 minutes, especially hot water ones.
- Avoid the alcohol-based perfumes and deodorants.
- Make sure you're hydrated. Drink lots of fluids.
- Revisit the skincare products that you use and see to it that the ingredients are safe for your skin.
- Use a hydrating moisturizer at all times, preferably when your skin is still damp post a shower as it locks in as much moisture as possible.

If the problem still persists after doing all of these things then it's time to visit a dermatologist and seek medical help.
