Maintaining a healthy lifestyle is one of the most essential things you need to do in order to have an ailment-free life. It can help prevent chronic illnesses as well as long-term diseases. And even though you might feel that there are a ton of different thing you need to do to maintain a healthy lifestyle, you actually just need to follow a few healthy habits. Making these changes and following certain routines will help make things a lot simpler and healthier for you.

Here are a few tips that will help you stay healthy in the upcoming year.

Stay hydrated: We cannot stress enough on how important this is. Staying hydrated should be your number one priority. Water is the elixir to life. Not only does it flush toxins from your body but it can also help you maintain your weight. Plus, drinking plenty of water can also aid your skin by helping retain its elasticity and keeping it moisturised and radiant.

Maintain your weight: Ever heard of the saying 'You are what you eat'? Well, it does apply to you because the healthier your food is, the healthier you'll be. So, try to ensure that you cut down on your consumption of junk foods and also avoid overeating. You must remember that you need to burn more calories than you consume.

Include variety in your foods: Fad diets have pretty much taken over the world these days. And while they may provide you with some instant short-term benefits, in the long run, they can prove to be harmful to you. The reason for this is that these diets often exclude certain groups of food altogether from your diet. And your body needs a little bit of everything in order to thrive. So, try to include a variety of food in your diet like proteins, carbohydrates, vitamin-rich fruits and veggies, legumes, foods with omega-3 fatty acids and those that are rich in antioxidants.

Improve your heart health: We know it's difficult to do this but if you could quit smoking completely, it'll do wonders not just for your heart health but for your overall health in general. Also, try to get at least 30 minutes of physical activity per day for at least 5 days a week as it'll help improve the strength of your heart. Opt for any type of physical activity you like; it could be walking, running, swimming, playing a game etc.

Cut down on salt and sugar consumption: Salt and sugar are two things you really need to cut down on. While consuming too much salt can lead to blood pressure issues, consuming too much sugar can lead to diseases like diabetes and conditions like obesity. So, the more you cut down on these, the better you'll feel.
