Let’s be honest, none of us are above that occasional midnight snack craving. And despite the meticulously planned and portioned meals you consumed throughout the day, diving into that piece of cake in the middle of the night can crash all your efforts down. While you can easily curb down the midnight craving by eating the right amount during the day, you can also not give into an unhealthy craving by having a healthy midnight snack. Ahead are some of our favourites.
02/8Baked chickpeas
Skip the unhealthy late night snacks and reach for a crispy, healthy alternative! Having a batch of baked chickpeas in your pantry means you can snack on something that has protein, fibre and lots of vitamins and minerals.
03/8Whole grain crackers with low-fat cheddar cheese and grapes
This one, you can throw together in minutes. If you want the completely healthy deal, pick whole grain crackers over flavoured one. It has all the components of a complete meal as well. Take a couple of whole wheat crackers and top with some slices of low-fat cheese. Serve with a handful of grapes — that way you have something sweet to complement the sharpness of the cheese.
04/8Nice cream
If you are reaching for a bowl of ice cream is your go-to late night snack, it’s time to try a delicious healthy alternative — nice cream! Made with frozen bananas, nice cream is just as good, if not better than the real thing!
05/8Fruit and Yoghurt
If you are craving something sweet in the midnight, the yoghurt and fruit combination comes close. Stick to the plain yoghurt or unflavoured Greek yoghurt. For the fruit flavouring, we suggest, cut a fresh fruit and mix it with the yoghurt.
06/8Hummus and veggie sticks
If you’re craving crispy chips, here’s an alternative that delivers on the crisp and the taste. Keep a batch of hummus readymade. With chickpeas and olive oil, hummus delivers on that healthy fat and proteins. The cut veggies along with the hummus taste much better than you would imagine and serve you with some nutritional goodness too.
07/8Medjool date with peanut butter
If you’re looking for another option for your sweet cravings, here’s something you can make that you already have at home. Cut open the pit of a date, remove the seed and add a teaspoon of peanut butter over right. Sprinkle some coconut shavings for that extra goodness. Yummers!
08/8Banana and peanut butter
Banana and peanut butter are a winning combination for more than one reason. Not only do they complement well flavour wise, the combination can also slow down metabolism. Meaning, you would stay fuller for longer.
