While opting for tattoos is a task in itself, what's even more difficult is to be able to maintain it. And we all know tattoos don't come cheap. Even basic designs can end up costing a bomb so it only becomes more important for you to take appropriate care of it. What most of us tend to do is that we stop caring for our tattoo once the skin heals. This is the biggest mistake we make. Whether it's dirt and pollutants or the sun's harsh rays, there are a number of factors that can make your tattoo lose its colour and shape. So, if you want to ensure your tattoo is preserved in the most pristine condition, here are a few things you can do to protect your tattoo from the sun's harmful rays.

- The very first thing to remember is that you need to apply sunscreen to your tattoo as well (even if it's under your clothes). Pick one with SPF 30 or more and apply it at least 20 minutes prior to leaving the house.

- Make sure you don't expose your tattoos to the sun's rays during peak hours like 10 am to 4 pm. Make sure that your tattoo is covered with a towel or a jacket during this time at least.

- Under no circumstances should a fresh tattoo be exposed to the sun's rays and especially when your skin hasn't healed yet. This is what makes things a lot worse for your tattoo.

- Wear loose clothes with breathable fabrics so that your tattoo is covered and your skin has some breathing space. Remember, sweating isn't all that great for your tattoo either.

Make sure you follow these tips and you'll see just how well maintained your tattoo will look.
