High blood pressure is also known as hypertension and is a condition that puts extra pressure on the heart and the blood vessels. It happens to be an unusual condition owing to the fact that it shows no symptoms before occurring. This is also why it is known as the silent killer. The only way to find out whether you're suffering from hypertension is by getting your blood pressure checked regularly. If you happen to have high blood pressure it can prove to be very dangerous for you if it spirals out of control. While medication can help keep a check on it, there are also certain lifestyle changes that can help.



Manage your weight - Start by keeping a check on your weight. Often people who are overweight also tend to suffer from hypertension. Make sure that you exercise regularly and eat a healthy diet so that you can maintain a healthy weight.



Reduce salt intake - Consuming too much salt can also be bad for your blood pressure and if you suffer from hypertension, it can lead to excessive pressure on your heart. So, reduce the amount of salt you add in your food. You could always opt for alternatives like lemon, lemon zest and vinegar.



Limit alcohol intake - Don't drink too much alcohol if you suffer from hypertension. If you limit your alcohol intake, it will also help you manage your blood pressure.



Exercise regularly - As we mentioned earlier, it is important that you work out and get some exercise regularly. Even something as simple as brisk walking for 30 minutes a day can help keep control over your blood pressure. You could even opt for other exercises like running, swimming or yoga.
