According to a recent study conducted, having the "lazy eye" condition can affect a child's self-esteem. A new study has looked into whether the condition "lazy eye" or amblyopia, where one eye has reduced vision due to misalignment or blur, was associated with lower self-perception by children of their competence, appearance, conduct, and self-worth.
After conducting the research, researchers have found that children with the "lazy eye" condition had lower scholastic, social and athletic scores on a self-perception profile than the children in the control group. Also, reading speed is associated with self-perception of academic competence while aiming and catching skills are associated with self-perception of scholastic, social and athletic ability for children with amblyopia.
The findings of this study have been published in the journal, JAMA Ophthalmology.
