Are you a heavy drinker? Well, we've got some news for you. New research from the Department of Epidemiology and Prevention of I.R.C.C.S. Neuromed, Pozzilli, Italy states that people who drink moderately are a lot less prone to hospitalisation as compared to heavy drinkers. Well, this can definitely certify as a positive effect of moderate alcohol consumption. The research involved about 21,000 participants who were followed for over 6 years. Their drinking habits and visits to the hospital were recorded during this time.

As per the research, defining moderate consumption of alcohol means drinking one glass of wine per day. Simona Costanzo, the first author of the paper also added that heavy consumption of alcohol was not only associated with a higher risk of hospitalisation but was also associated with certain cancers and other alcohol-related diseases. Whereas people who consume alcohol moderately show fewer signs of being prone to hospitalisation as well as cardiovascular diseases.

The researchers concluded by saying that there is definitive research to show that drinking alcohol in moderation is a lot better than drinking it excessively, however, more research is required on the same. And there are more health effects that need to be taken into consideration. Stay tuned for more updates.
