The New Year is almost upon us and what's the first thing it's bringing with it? A new diet trend of course! Come 2019, you're going to hear all about the new pegan diet. To put it in simple terms, the pegan diet combines two other diets - the paleo and vegan diets to give you a well-balanced, super effective diet plan.

For those uninitiated, the paleo diet focuses entirely on protein-heavy, caveman-inspired food, whereas the vegan diet like the name suggests, cuts out meat, seafood and all other kinds of animal produce. However, when you combine the two, you get a diet that gives you the perfect balance.

What can you eat in the pegan diet? Well, for starters, it requires you to eat plenty of fresh fruits and veggies. These need to comprise at least two-thirds of your meals. You could even opt for starchy veggies like beets and sweet potatoes. Beans, nuts, seeds and legumes can also be consumed. And you are also allowed to consume eggs, seafood as well as grass-fed poultry. However, these need to be side dishes, not the main course.

Now, as is with every diet, the pegan diet too has its pros and cons. The diet focuses on giving you a well-balanced meal plan that includes both veggies for vitamins and nutrients as well as meat for proteins. However, since it restricts most dairy products (like ghee), you'll need to look for alternative sources of proteins. Well, what say you? Want to give this new diet a try?
