Who doesn't love guacamole? Avocados are known as a miracle fruit and we must say we couldn't agree more. They offer a hoard of health benefits including being extremely nutritious, containing healthy fatty acids and even lowering cholesterol levels. So, if you're looking for one more reason to add avocados to your diet, they can help combat obesity too. That's right, studies have found that if you use avocados as a substitute for carbohydrates, they can not only suppress hunger but can also increase meal satisfaction.

The researchers conducted the study based on certain factors like how hungry participants felt after consuming avocados, how full they felt and how satisfied they felt over a six-hour period. Over 31 participants were surveyed for the study and it was found that consuming avocados limited insulin and blood glucose excursions which could reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases and diabetes. And they also managed to add quite an amount of healthy fats and fibres to the participants' diets.

"For years, fats have been targeted as the main cause of obesity, and now carbohydrates have come under scrutiny for their role in appetite regulation and weight control," said Britt Burton-Freeman, lead researcher of the study.

"There is no 'one size fits all' solution when it comes to optimal meal composition for managing appetite. However, understanding the relationship between food chemistry and its physiological effects in different populations can reveal opportunities for addressing appetite control and reducing rates of obesity, putting us a step closer to personalised dietary recommendations," Burton-Freeman added.

It was concluded that adding avocados to one's diet could help combat obesity by making one feel full for longer and by adding much-needed fibres to the diet that could also aid in digestion.
