Having dessert after dinner is practically a norm in so many countries but unfortunately, sugar can prove to be a little too harmful to health. From diabetes to obesity there are a plethora of things that can go wrong due to excessive consumption of sugar and this also includes damage to your skin. There's a reason why dermatologists tell you to cut down sugar from your diet. So, if you're wondering how bad sugar can be for your skin, give this a read.

When you consume too much sugar, your body produces extra levels of insulin to keep up with the sugar intake and make sure that your blood sugar levels stay normal and don't get elevated. In the process, your skin and body can get inflamed due to high levels of insulin. This results in bumps and red patches on your skin and can also give rise to other skin issues.

Due to the amount of inflammation in your skin, it can become more prone to acne and breakouts. Your white blood cells also tend to get weaker and because of this, it becomes even more difficult to get rid of that acne and breakouts.

Too much of sugar consumption has also been linked with causing signs of premature ageing. It can directly attack collagen production which can make your skin lose its elasticity and firmness. Due to this, you might end up with wrinkles, sagging skin, spots, blemishes and more.

So, now that you know just how harmful sugar is to your skin, maybe it's time you cut down on it and consume it in limited quantities. Stay tuned for more updates.
