Here's how cold pressed coconut oil works wonders for your health

Recently, a video made of a Harvard professor claiming that coconut oil is poison went viral. While the west has just discovered the many benefits of coconut oil, it has been a commonly used ingredient in Indian households for ages. While there is very little research on how coconut oil affects the heart, a general rule of thumb is that everything should be used in moderation.



The American Heart Association urged people to avoid consuming coconut oil last year. Unsaturated fats, like the ones present in olive oil help improve blood cholesterol but should still be consumed in moderation. Here's what you should know about cold-pressed coconut oil and its benefits.



It works great on softening the skin and also acts as a moisturiser. You could even mix it with sugar and salt and use it as an exfoliant. It helps clear your pores and gets rid of dead skin cells. “Coconut oil is best used for medium-heat cooking and excellent for baking,” says Swasti Aggarwal, food strategist. “Coconut oil can increase the good HDL cholesterol in our body. If you don’t wish to consume it, you can use it for skin care or for dental hygiene. You can use it like a mouthwash in a process called oil pulling, which can kill some of the harmful bacteria in the mouth,” says Aggarwal. Stay tuned for more updates.
