Diabetes is one of the most prevalent health conditions today with people either being born with the condition or developing it over time. It happens to interfere with the body's insulin-producing mechanism which leads to a spike in the sugar levels present in the blood. To combat this, one must either follow certain medication or learn to consume the right foods to help keep the condition under control. One such food is ginger which contains only 1.3 grams of carbohydrates per teaspoon. A new study has found that ginger when consumed in the right doses can help bring diabetes under control.

Ginger also happens to be rich in potassium, iron, and fibre. When studied over the years, ginger proved to help reduce blood sugar levels and also helped to regulate insulin levels in the body. Apart from this, consuming ginger also had various other benefits like reduced body weight, reduced body fat mass, decreased blood sugar levels and increased insulin levels. Plus, ginger also contains anti-inflammatory properties which could help combat certain problems that arise due to diabetes.

Here's how you can add ginger to your diet:

- Try and opt for organic ginger roots rather than processed ginger powder or paste as those hardly contain any nutritional value.

- Be consistent with the daily consumption. If you consume ginger for at least six weeks, only then are you bound to see any positive effects.

- Don't eat too much of it either. Make sure that you consume it in consistent doses.

- Turn it into a treat. You could always mix together a pitcher of iced ginger lemonade that you could treat yourself to from time to time.

Well, while these tips are bound to work, it is also important to remember that you need to take your medication as well. Stay tuned for more updates.
