Well, it is known that lack of sleep can lead to certain health problems, but a study has now found that too much sleep can also have adverse effects on an individual's health. Turns out, people who sleep for more than 7-8 hours on an average are more likely to develop mental issues. The amount of sleep that could hinder your brain from functioning properly was the same for everyone (over 7-8 hours). In fact, the researchers said that even the participants' age did not matter here.

“We found that the optimum amount of sleep to keep your brain performing its best is seven to eight hours every night and that corresponds to what the doctors will tell you need to keep your body in tip-top shape, as well,” said lead author Conor Wild, Research Associate at the University of Western Ontario in Canada. “We also found that people that slept more than that amount were equally impaired as those who slept too little,” Wild added.

After the research was conducted, it was found that participants who slept normal hours as compared to those who slept too much, performed a lot better than the latter. Stay tuned for more updates.
