We all know that breaking up with someone is a really difficult task. But once you do it, it can turn out to be the best thing you ever did for yourself. But even so, there are people who choose to stay in unsatisfying relationships. New research has found that one of the main reasons why people choose to do this is because they don't want to hurt their partner. Often when they find out that their partner is too dependent on the relationship, they choose to stay because they're afraid their partner will be upset if they leave.

“When people perceived that the partner was highly committed to the relationship they were less likely to initiate a break up,” Samantha Joel, lead author on the study, said in a statement. “This is true even for people who weren’t really committed to the relationship themselves or who were personally unsatisfied with the relationship. Generally, we don’t want to hurt our partners and we care about what they want.” Of course, there are many other reasons why people choose to be unsatisfying relationships, but ultimately the final choice is up to them.
