Here's what you need to keep in mind about workplace anxiety

Let's just be honest. We're all aware of what it's like to face anxiety at the workplace and at some point we've all felt it. We've known people, colleagues who face it and while some people have the courage to deal with it and seek help, most others just choose to keep panicking or choose some other mode of a remedy. But there's one thing that most people forget to take into consideration when they face workplace anxiety.

When people face anxiety in the workplace, they tend to identify themselves as the victim. But what they forget is that they also play the role of the injury bearer. It's during these times that people tend to be extremely critical of themselves and can also act cruelly towards themselves. And naturally, criticising yourself will only make things worse for your anxiety.

Experts say that when we receive a physical injury we immediately tend to it, however, the same cannot be said for mental injuries. One thing but these injuries have in common is that they both need to be treated using compassion. The more compassionate you are towards yourself, the more likely you are to have better mental health and physical health.

Experts suggest that despite being independent individuals, we're all also interdependent on each other. We look for and crave for love and affection from others but we should ideally also do the same for ourselves. One must begin by showing compassion and love for oneself rather than expecting it from someone else.

Ways in which you can be compassionate towards yourself:

- Open up about what's really bothering you. Talk to yourself about it or write it down or paint it out. Just do anything that helps you bring it out of your system and into the open.

- Go to a counsellor if things are getting out of hand. Understand that it is okay to get help and ask for help. It's alright to speak to someone who can help you understand how you can get better. Your mental problem is just as relevant as any physical problem so do not be ashamed of seeking help.

- Start letting go of things. More often than not we create unnecessary drama in our heads about hypothetical situations and that doesn't really help out, does it? So, if you know that there's something that's really not worth your attention, learn to let it go.

- Understand that just like bad times there will also be good times. And whatever it is that you're facing now shall pass with time. You do not have to be stuck here forever.

- Celebrate the small things. Even if you accomplish something minor, make sure to pat yourself on the back for it. It'll help you feel better about yourself.
