We all know just how popular the ketogenic diet is these days. It's one of the most effective diets out there. But what has always remained a question is that do you lose muscle mass while on your keto diet? Since the diet itself calls for minimum carb intake it's also difficult to understand how someone on the diet has the energy to workout. But there's some good news; an expert says that the risk of losing muscle mass is low while on a keto diet.

"With any weight-loss plan, a small amount of muscle will be lost, however, as long as the body has stored fat cells, there will be fat cells to burn," the expert said. "The research on ketogenic diets and low-carbohydrate diets has not found there to be a higher level of muscle mass loss than when compared to calorie-restricted meal plans with a higher level of carbohydrate," she added.

However, it is also necessary to take a high-quality multivitamin to compensate for a low-carb intake to keep your energy levels in balance. You should also get the right amount of sleep. "The last few hours of sleep is when muscle tissue regenerates and rebuilds," she said. "Lack of sleep may increase loss of muscle tissue," she concluded.
