Most people have passed out at least once in their lifetime. Often fainting is associated with stress, lack of sleep, lack of energy or an imbalanced diet and so on. People generally tend to ignore this as something that isn't too important to bother themselves with. However, what if we told you that for some people fainting can be fatal? More often than not when people faint the fall can injure them. And such falls can even lead to fatal injuries that can affect people throughout their lives.

While people don't take fainting as a serious health issue, what's important to remember is that people almost always faint due to problems associated with the heart. In fact, studies suggest that even one episode of fainting can point to a warning sign for a heart disorder. In medical terms, this is known as ‘syncope’.

Syncope is a temporary loss of consciousness usually related to insufficient blood flow to the brain. It often occurs when a person's blood pressure is too low or their heart doesn't pump enough oxygen to the brain. This alone is good enough reason to get worried about people fainting. While syncope varies across ages and occurs in people due to different reasons, some episodes can be life-threatening, especially if the person faints when under stress or without any warning.

Symptoms of syncope include feeling dizzy or faint, palpitations in the heart, weakness or loss of energy and shortness of breath. The risks associated with syncope only worsen with age and for people with heart conditions it can turn out to be fatal. Well, here's why you should start taking fainting seriously. And if you've had more than one episode of this, we suggest you consult with a doctor immediately. Stay tuned for more updates.
