The Mediterranean diet is known to work wonders for people's health owing to its high content of fruits, vegetables, olive oil, legumes and nuts. It has been associated with lower obesity and cardiometabolic risk in adults as well as working well for weight loss. While it is already known to have multiple such health benefits, a new study has now found that it can also work wonders for pregnant women. Women who consume a Mediterranean diet have a 32% lower risk of having children with an accelerated growth pattern.

The Barcelona Institute for Global Health conducted this study to find the association between consuming a Mediterranean diet during pregnancy and growth patterns and cardiometabolic risk in early infancy. The study was conducted on over 2700 women who were asked to fill in a questionnaire in the first and third trimester of pregnancy. Once the offspring was born, their diet, height and weight were followed on a regular basis for up to four years of their age.

Well, this proves that what a mother eats during pregnancy can go a long way in how the child's health will turn out to be. So, all you mothers-to-be, remember to include the right diet in your lifestyle. Stay tuned for more updates.
