Here's why you should try to avoid fad diets

We all know what fad diets are. They've taken over the world with the promise of getting people fit in no time. And while they work initially, they're not really something you can stick to when it comes to long term diet plans. Obesity has been on the rise in India. In fact, between 13% and 50% of the urban population in India suffers from obesity. The key to incorporating weight loss in your regimen is to opt for the right nutrition containing food.

You need to start by having a balanced diet that consists of 50-60% of total calories from carbohydrates such as whole wheat, brown rice, oats and millets, 10-15% from proteins from both vegetarian and non-vegetarian sources like pulses, nuts, seeds, dairy and dairy products, eggs, meat and fish and 20-30% from fat which includes very moderate use of visible fat like cooking oil, ghee and butter.

Apart from all these factors, it is also very important to understand that fad diets don't work well for everyone. Diets need to be individualised because every person's body is different. So, it would be best that you consult a dietitian about your diet and come up with a diet plan that best suits your needs rather than blindly jumping from one fad diet to the next.
