With the onset of summer, the temperatures are set to rise in all states of India. While summer brings all the happiness of being able to gorge on mangoes and watermelons, this year it might not be the case. As summers in India is not the best time of the year, except the hilly areas, considering we all are going to stay under house arrest, things are going to get oppressively sticky and hot. Especially if you are living in a flat, then you need to keep cool to survive the harsh heatwaves. While we must stay indoors to keep ourselves protected from the coronavirus pandemic, you can still manage to keep yourself cool indoors.

A great way to keep cool can be switching off your appliances when not required. This will reduce the amount of heat radiation from electronic devices which can potentially warm up your house.

Hanging a wet sheet is an old trick that still works. Soak your cotton bed sheet in water and hang it in front of your window. This will block the hot air from entering your room and at the same time, it will pass a cool breeze to calm the indoor temperature. You can also keep your windows open for ventilation, however, you should only open them post-sunset to enjoy the nice wind.

Similar to hot water bottles in chilly nights, a cold water bottle can help you relax during the hot afternoons. You can also take a double shower to lower your body temperature. If you have a table fan, make use of it. You can place a wet handkerchief in front of your table fan to enjoy a cool breeze in the comfort of your room.

If you have a duplex house or stairs then you can sleep downstairs too. It will help you to stay cool during the summer as heat rises up. Hence, the ground floor will always be cooler in temperature than the upper floors.
