India in its 4th stage of lockdown has gradually started re-opening of business, public places, and transportation services, including salons, gyms, and other institutions. While this doesn’t mean that the risks of COVID-19 are over, one must take extra precautions to be on the safe side. In fact, places like a gym that involves constantly touching different machines and surfaces with a lot of sweating, the chances of contamination are quite high. Although we are still unsure how it’s going to be once people start going back tot heir gym classes, it’s recommended that you follow some do’s and don’ts to safely start gym classes post-lockdown.

While avoiding frequently used or touched objects are the best ways to ensure safety, we recommend washing your hands often in between each exercise. Avoid touching your face while exercising and make sure your hair is neatly tied away from your face. Bring your own towel to wipe away sweat and carry a sanitiser or disinfectant. Look for a breathable face mask for your gym session.

Wearing gloves while handling different types of equipment at the gym can also help to reduce the chances of contamination. Many people also claim that lifting weights using gloves provides a better grip. Using disposable one is better, however, if you care for the environment then you can also use a re-usable one. Make sure you sanitise your pair of gloves every time after use.

It’s advisable to skip shared shower rooms and locker rooms at the gym. It’s way safe to change your clothes after you return home and take a shower.

Talk to your gym or health club association and find out what precautions they are taking to ensure the safety of the members. This will help to figure out how much safe is your gym after the lockdown.
